Jolly Roger 27
“I wanted to explore a clean, bold pirate aesthetic in a pen and ink style using Procreate, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Photoshop. The skull and crossbones were fun to play with linework and shading for in a timeless, iconic design.”

“Inspired by my love of German Expressionism, and after several sketches on paper, I used Procreate to bring him to life. My focus was on the emotional weight of Cesare’s sharp, haunting features. The jagged lines and bold contrasts honor the eerie aesthetic of the original film.”

They are a labor of love and experimentation. The original artists are named and credited, and in no way is my intention to affiliate myself with their legacies. These artists are some of my greatest inspirations and artistic heroes. Comic books were so important to my childhood, from learning to read from them to learning to draw. Without these masters, I would never have had the passion for art and story I have today. All "Re-Inks" use Pink as the color of their title to help differentiate them.

Digital Re-Inks and color by WKavan over Original Art by Mark Texeira
“Inking over Mark Texeira’s pencils is a masterclass in posing your actor. I had a blast with the high-contrast stylized look of Ghost Rider’s iconic skull and flames. Procreate was my go-to with custom brushes and digital inks. This piece put me back in the 90s with the character's epic reboot.”

Digital Re-Inks and color by WKavan over Original Art by John Buscuma
“As a fan, trying to ink over the great John Buscema’s work is like connecting to the foundation of modern sequential art. In Procreate, I focused on bold, clean lines to highlight the Hulk’s sheer power and iconic presence while enhancing the original depth.”

The Dark Knight Re-Ink

Digital Inks by WKavan over Original Art by David Finch
“Batman’s silhouette is legendary. Inking in Procreate over David Finch’s pencils gave me a chance to highlight the gritty edges and heavy contrasts that make The Dark Knight stand out, especially in Finch's iconic style.”

Joe "Mad" Madureira
“Joe Madureira’s work is a huge inspiration for me. His work has so much emotion and energy in a brilliant fusion of American Comics, Anime, and Manga art. I focused on clean digital inks, in Adobe Fresco and Adobe Photoshop, to amplify the tension and sharpness of Wolverine’s clash with Sabretooth.”

Self-Portrait 23
“This self-portrait was a personal challenge. I explored light and texture in a Bendy, rounded 1930s animation, style to reflect my perspective and emotion while rediscovering analog art and keeping the details honest and minimal with Procreate.”

Pumpkin Study 3
“Live references are great ways to explore realism. In this study, I used an apple that reminded me of a pumpkin. Live references are all about seeing details in 3D. I creatively pushed those details into a Jack-o-Lantern. I played with turning reality into an illustration by shading the pumpkin’s texture, ridges, and imperfections to feel tactile and real.”

Carnivorous Flower
“This was pure imagination. I wanted to design something surreal and dangerous – a flower that feels alive, sharp, and a little monstrous. 8-Bit American Traditional seemed like a real challenge in Procreate.”

Woman with Flower in Her Hair
“I aimed to balance portraiture with beast-like elements here. The flower is a carnivorous beast but adds softness and movement, complementing the subject’s serene expression.”
